Overview

When their ship crash-lands on a remote planet, the marooned passengers soon learn that escaped convict Riddick isn’t the only thing they have to fear. Deadly creatures lurk in the shadows, waiting to attack in the dark, and the planet is rapidly plunging into the utter blackness of a total eclipse. With the body count rising, the doomed survivors are forced to turn to Riddick with his eerie eyes to guide them through the darkness to safety. With time running out, there’s only one rule: Stay in the light.

Viewing Notes

After crash-landing on a seemingly lifeless planet, pilot Carolyn Fry and the remaining passengers—including murderer Riddick and policeman William J. Johns—encounter an army of creatures whose only weakness is light. As a long night approaches and the aliens emerge, they must rely on Riddick’s powerful night vision to lead them through the darkness. Has it really been fifteen years since this first came out? While some of the shots are a little on the cheese side and a few of the effects haven’t aged as well as they could have, I still think this is a solid sci-fi flick that does a lot of things right. While the characters may not be the nicest people in the universe, we can relate to them. The effects work, both audio and visual are fantastic given the budget, and on top of that it’s a really good horror flick as well.
