Several of my friends had been saying that while Ninja Assassin had been a tragedy (not that I agree with it, I found it enjoyable), Ninja was the flick to see. It’s pretty great. Easily the best throwback to a 1980’s style American kung-fu actioner, ala American Ninja, but with far more ass kickery (yeah, I said kickery!). Issac Florentine is a guy to watch. I know I’m late on this bandwagon, since quite a few people have been saying to check out his Undisputed series. And after this flick, I did just that.
Ninja also highlights the mad skills of Scott Adkins, a Canadian acrobatic, martial arts titan who has, previously to working with Florentine, seemed to just be a stunt man. It’s good to get him up front and center and he’ll be one of those guys to watch in the future.
The plot of Ninja has nothing new to it, at all, but everything is made up by the pacing, which gives us some fantastic shootouts and fights right as you’re getting bored with the simplistic story.
