Viewing Notes

A lot of hokey ass shit in this movie but I give it props for making a well-worn retread premise interesting thanks to a capable Scott Adkins and Tsuyoshi Ihara as his terrible brother (bad brother goes rogue and good brother has to take him down, which has been used in martial arts films esp ninja movies since they started making them). Anytime the action stops the movie crumples under this thin plot but when Adkins or Ihara is mixing it up, it’s fun again.

Altho Mika Hijii has a long career in genre tv and movies, she’s not v good here. Would’ve preferred she was killed early to give Scott more motivation to seek out his brother. Maybe that’s in the next movie? I forget.

The sword being the antidote is also so fucking dumb. Wow that is dumb. But Florentine’s direction is super solid and he knows how to shoot a fight sequence so my soft 7 out of 10 stands. Jay Hawk says… check it out.
