Viewing Notes

Rock ‘em Sock ‘em Robots: The Movie! Right? That’s what I’ve thought since seeing the trailer for REAL STEEL. The effects looked pretty solid. The plot looked like it was basically OVER THE TOP with robots.

Once my kids saw the trailer, they flipped. They wanted to see boxing robots. So, we all piled into the car for a “Family Movie Night” (something that rarely happens these days.

Was REAL STEEL worth it? Heck yes!

REAL STEEL was OVER THE TOP meets ROCKY meets TRANSFORMERS meets 80’s Spielburg. The story was very familiar but it was the right kind of familiar. It’s director Shawn Levy’s best film yet.

REAL STEEL has incredible special effects, good human drama and most of all heart. The “boy and his robot” story is touching and believable. The “father/son” story is also very satisfying. There were even moments where it got a bit dusty in the room for me.

I’d recommend REAL STEEL to anyone who wants a light, but very well done story. It’s familiar without being brain dead, and just original enough to warrant it’s existence. Recommended.
