Nowhere near the original, Marcus Nispel’s CONAN THE BARBARIAN sits comfortably between CONAN THE DESTROYER, THE SWORD AND THE SORCERER and BEASTMASTER, and that’s fine with me!
Seriously, what was everyone expecting? I’m happy just to have a hard R-rated Sword & Sorcery flick in theaters. Jason Momoa is great in the Conan role and actually gives more character than Schwarzenegger’s flexing did.
Steven Lang chews the scenery as the baddie bent on becoming a god, Rose McGowan is having fun as Freddy Krueger’s long lost sister, and Ron Perlman sports a ridiculous beard.
I had a lot of fun with this flick. Many others disagree, but if your a fan of the genre, you’ll be satisfied.
