Justin Lin took an okay property and ran with it in TOKYO DRIFT. The only film of the series to actually focus on racing, it plays out kind of like ROCKY 3 only with high performance street racing in place of boxing (and it’s no where as near a good of a film as any of the ROCKY films…well, maybe better than 5).
I thought this flick was better than it should have been. The lead actor was a bit of a doofus, but at least we’re introduced to Sung Kang as Han (who appears in the newer FAST & FURIOUS movies). I think Sung Kang steals the show and wish they eliminated the idiotic southern kid altogether.
TOKYO DRIFT revitalized this series and it’s a guilty pleasure worth revisiting.
