Viewing Notes

Birthday movie night: favorite franchise film (the franchise being The Fast and The Furious, which I love).

Kinda had to do this one after screening F&F 1 last year for my bday and doing 2F2F this year. It’s an interesting entry bc it sheds the “crime / heist / uncover” elements for a fish out of water / stranger in a strange land premise. ofc it bumps up to the crime elements w/the silly yakuza stuff but it’s really the American in Japan falling for a girl and getting mixed up with the wrong people. Then there’s the daddy issue stuff. Really odd entry in the franchise that I still like a lot bc it introduces fan favorite Han and it’s Justin Lin’s debut into the franchise.

4K UHD looks pretty good and sounds good, too. Love seeing the exaggerated Tokyo and Japanese culture in this. It’s too bad they didn’t just get a Japanese girl for the love interest but I get it. They needed it to be “Japan” but not too much Japan for western audiences.

Always love seeing Keiko Kitagawa still fresh off her turn as Sailor Mars in the live action Sailor Moon series, before she blew up as a cover girl model and a more famous actress.

We definitely should do the short film and F&F 4 sometime then ofc the action masterpiece Fast Five.
