Did we really need an Extended Cut of Rambo? Sly Stallone seemed to think so. Was it worth watching? 100% YES.
The Extended Cut of Rambo flows better than the theatrical. One of the major changes is to the “montage voiceover” scene of Rambo gearing up to go rescue the missionaries. Stallone removes the awkward voiceover (although, it does boast my favorite line: “When you’re pushed, killin’s as easy as breathin”), and layers in a prayer. It’s a wonderful scene and the juxtaposition actually makes for a surprisingly emotional scene. My favorite line is used in an extended dialog scene which actually works perfectly.
Rambo: The Director’s Cut is my definitive cut of the film. The few changes work perfectly and make it a slightly better film. Is it still slightly dumb and violent. Hell yes!
There has been one gripe floating around the Internets, allegedly, some of the gore has been trimmed out of the movie, but I didn’t notice at all.
