Partly serious and partly slapstick buddy comedy movie, Deadly Breaking Sword seems to suffer from trying to be both but never really successfully blending the two together.
That said, the opening action scene is excellently staged and the comedy, in the form of comedic martial artist Sheng Fu, is fun in it’s own right. I just didn’t feel the two mixed well in this film. I think I would have preferred a darker, more serious tone to the entire film.
