I’ve been meaning to watch the 1931 version for years and finally managed to get it on DVD from my library. Obviously not as good as Huston’s 1941 version, but still pretty good. I was surprised to see Dwight Frye in the Ulmer role (played by Elisha Cook Jr. in the 1941 version).
The dialog and scenes are very similar to the 1941 version, but there are some exceptions here and there where some great dialog crops up in this version.
The ending is also different and great in its own way. Definitely worth a watch.
