Viewing Notes

Majot portions of Che: Part One feel similar to The Battle for Algiers, an obvious influence on the movie. The closest we come to exposition are the United Nations scenes that are spliced into the Cuban struggle at various times. Other than that, Che’s politics are mostly told through the actions on screen.

The film, especially the jungle and urban warfare portions, is really well shot. You get a good sense of the difficulties, the power of belief, and the righteousness of their convictions.

Easily my favorite of the two parts, perhaps because the outcome here is more hopeful (even though history has taught us that Cuba really just traded one dictator for another).
