Beautifully shot in black and white, it’s still a difficult watch due to the horrific subject matter. Having read Iris Chang’s “The Rape of Nanking” I know that there were even greater atrocities committed than were pictured in this movie, but it’s still unsettling.
The movie is based on the accounts of eyewitnesses to the events depicted, and is unflinchingly authentic in that regard.
