The story of the early, murderous roots of the cannibalistic killer, Hannibal Lecter – from his hard-scrabble Lithuanian childhood, where he witnesses the repulsive lengths to which hungry soldiers will go to satiate themselves, through his sojourn in France, where as a med student he hones his appetite for the kill.

Still unsure of my exact feelings on this prequel. Generally speaking, I liked it, but I don’t know that it really feels like a solid enough back story for Lechter; and I’m not even sure we really needed a back story. Of course I haven’t read the books so I may be entirely wrong.
Gong Li is great and it was nice to see Dominic West as a French war crimes investigator. He slips in and out of accents pretty easily and was completely believable as a Frenchman, at least to my untrained ears.
