Second film of Stanley Film Festival and perhaps a bit controversial to be shown in Colorado given the nature of the story. It’s always great to see Takashi Miike on the big screen. Definitely not my favorite Miike, and not even my favorite horror-themed Miike film, but still a good watch.
It definitely could have gone a different direction, and perhaps would have felt tighter as a story, and more compelling, but in typical Miike fashion, it goes off the rails for the last third and all hell breaks loose. It’s fun to watch movies like this that defy your expectations and go in different directions.
