I remember the first time I watched this I felt like some of the actors were horribly miscast, especially Keanu Reeves. After rewatching it, I have to say he actually did a pretty good job. Cary Elwes on the other hand feels to farcical. The movie on the whole swings between well-articulated victorian period horror and campiness from time to time, which undermines the entire thing.
Ultimately though, it’s a pretty good movie and it’s pretty easy to forgive it’s sillier moments. Oldman is just great as Dracula and a lot of the visual effects, makeup and costuming are stunning.
