Viewing Notes
While Waste Land’s marketing will probably try to pass it off as a police procedural, it’s really more of a straightforward drama centered around the destructive main character who grinds through both his marriage and his professional career on the way to the bottom.
While the film doesn’t have anything too explicit to say about race relations in Belgium, racial tension definitely shades everything about the movie. I really liked the realistic portrayal of the immigrant world which was unexpected and mostly goes unacknowledged in the foreign cinema we see here in America.
