No one makes the sort of operatic melodramatic crime dramas anymore that still come out of Hong Kong. This Hong Kong/American co-production is a fictionalized account of real events but never really feels like it gets a full head of steam going. I never really engaged with any of the characters, none of them getting enough attention to develop real emotional depth.
