Viewing Notes

The Himalayan starts off oddly and it has a funky vibe throughout given the Tibetan setting, but it gets better as it progresses. It’s not much of a vehicle for Mao until the final battle since it focuses more on the villain, Chan Sing, who’s pretty bad ass.

Despite the odd beginning where you’re not really sure where it’s going, it eventually starts to assemble itself into the traditional betrayal/revenge model of many kung fu movies. It’s a bit of a chore to sit through this. One humorous aside is watching Sammo Hung riding a small Tibetan mountain pony! I wish he had a greater role in the film.
