Viewing Notes

This was a really fun revisit as I remembered not caring much for this when it first came out. It’s patently De Palma from the amazing opening long shot to the use of split screen and the hitchcockian homage shots (the shot down the stairwell and the shot of Cage with Sinise behind him in the hallway being two standouts).

Thanks to Twitter I discovered that the original ending was cut, which is pretty obvious when watching the movie. I’d love to see that ending since it feels like it’d probably fit a lot better than what they went with. Hopefully it makes it onto a Blu-Ray extras disc at some point.

Definitely an under-appreciated De Palma film.
