It seems like it’d be difficult to take tired, worn-out horror tropes and do them in a way that’s even lazier, yet Ouija manages to do just that. There are a few times when it purposefully controverts those conventions, which are more surprising than usual only because the rest of it adheres to the standards like glue.
The FX are actually pretty decent and add a bit to the film but doesn’t excuse the cutaways from high tension moments with no payoff.
