Viewing Notes

A short, 20 minute film commissioned by George Lucas to play in front of The Empire Strikes Back in England, directed by ESB’s art director, Roger Christian.

More atmosphere than anything else, it’s easy to see how this film influenced the look and feel of Boorman’s Excaliber, which came out in 1981.

Recently, an original negative of the film was discovered, and the entire short is on YouTube in excellent quality. A previously “lost” film with ties to the original Star Wars trilogy piqued my interest enough to check it out.
