Shockingly, I had never seen the entire movie before. I think I’ve watched the ice hotel and airplane scenes two or three times before when it played on cable but never the whole movie.
It’s a little convoluted and they try to jam too much into it but overall it was better, and darker, than I thought it was going to be.
This is the first movie without Desmond Lewelyn as Q, whose role was taken over by John Cleese. This really begins to set a darker tone for the Bond franchise as well, setting the stage for the next four films while still retaining the gadgets and overly caricatured villains.
I also liked the stroll down memory lane with Q, revisiting gadgets from previous films and the comment about this being Bond’s 20th watch since this was the 20th film. I didn’t really care of the Madonna title song, perhaps one of the worst songs in the entire franchise.
