Holy shit, this was a pretty depressing, cynical movie. I liked it quite a bit but I’m guessing it didn’t do well commercially at the time. Certainly a lot darker than most of Hitchcock’s other work in this period. Definitely worth a watch.
Interestingly, nitrate film not being allowed on public transportation plays a role in the plot too. Guessing a lot of audiences today would miss the significance of that.
