Overview

Two families, abolitionist Northerners the Stonemans and Southern landowners the Camerons, intertwine. When Confederate colonel Ben Cameron is captured in battle, nurse Elsie Stoneman petitions for his pardon. In Reconstruction-era South Carolina, Cameron founds the Ku Klux Klan, battling Elsie’s congressman father and his African-American protégé, Silas Lynch.

I don’t even know how to rate this. I was expecting plenty of racism but it completely surpassed those expectations. Wow. Trump voters probably masturbate to this before bedtime every night.

On the other hand, quite an amazing achievement in filmmaking for 1915. However CABIRIA , which came out in 1914, is a far more superior film in almost every single way. Since Griffith’s INTOLERANCE was inspired by CABIRIA, I’m interested to see the differences between that and NATION.
