Viewing Notes

Gavin’s been on an Aronofsky kick and after watching REQUIEM FOR A DREAM and BLACK SWAN a few weeks ago wanted to watch THE WRESTLER and PI, the only two films of his he hasn’t seen. I thought I owned PI but couldn’t locate it. Luckily I found this and THE FOUNTAIN at 2nd and Charles today, so we made THE WRESTLER his last film over break.

This is a more personal, human story and so not his most cinematic film, but I still love it. Rourke and Tomei’s performances as two very down and out people feel real, nuanced and humane. Tomei was 44 when she made this and Rourke 56.
