Viewing Notes

Glad to finally strike this off my shame list. Great film, with Chaplin at his best. I was surprised by the ending since in earlier shorts and films the Tramp always ends up moving on with nothing to show for whatever his troubles or efforts were.

I’ve seen clips of the bread dance scene forever, but it’s so much better to see it in the context of the whole film.

Georgia Hale, who plays Georgia in the film, was born near where my parents grew up and retired to in Missouri. She also migrated to the Chicago area just like my parents did. Small world.
