Viewing Notes

Loved seeing this in the Cinerama with a great late-night crowd (we did the 10:15 PM showing) who were by and large into it, cheering and laughing and fist pumping. Also happy to experience the Cinerama for the first time after missing out on the one in L.A. a few years ago.

Still pretty mixed on this. On second watch, there are some great, fun moments in this that hearken back to the pure, unadulterated joy I remember feeling when watching the original STAR WARS. The pacing didn’t bother me as much this time, but there were still plenty of irritating things that are always going to keep me from really enjoying this film.

And finally, my opinion that this trio of movies just doesn’t work well as a trilogy at all was firmly cemented after this second watch. I remember being really excited and anticipating the story arc for Boyega’s character, Finn, before the first movie came out. I think all three films, taken separately and as a whole, really did a disservice to his character and story arc, to the point where he doesn’t even really have a story arc. And that’s just one of many things wrong with this Disney trilogy.
