Viewing Notes

Mostly set in the single location of the interior of an inn, this takes a long time to set itself up. The first half of the movie features a lot of slapstick and goofiness before settling down into a battle of wits and subterfuge before the final extended battle.

Not King Hu’s most lyrical or beautiful film but a fun watch nonetheless. This is a Golden Harvest production and I’ve seen one of the hills featured in the beginning of this in probably a dozen or more other Hong Kong films (mostly Shaw Brothers).
