A morality tale and a story of unrequited love wrapped in a pseudo-travelogue of the evolving Ginza area of Tokyo, post-war. The moral portion is simplistic and one-dimensional, which provided for an interesting juxtaposition opposite the love story it’s wrapped within.
It was really fascinating to see a part of Tokyo as it existed in the mid-1950s. From the photos I’ve seen, Ginza is a mainly a shopping area now. I loved the wide boulevards, canals and streetcars. Too bad cities don’t look like that anymore.
