Overview

Six years ago NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples, but crashed upon re-entry over Central America. Soon after, new life forms began to appear and half of Mexico was quarantined as an infected zone. Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain “the creatures,” while a journalist agrees to escort a shaken tourist through the infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the U.S. border.

Viewing Notes

Gavin wanted to rewatch this after having seen Evans’ GODZILLA, and so we did. This time the border wall had more relevance than in the past. Still a great movie with well developed, meaningful characters. I like the nuances to their back stories and that you’re never given the complete picture.

There are a lot of similarities between this, GODZILLA and ROGUE ONE. All three films are about the characters’ journeys, physically, emotionally and developmentally. As much as he’s touted for his SFX work and known as a sci-fi director, he actually does a great job with character development.
