Beautifully shot in mostly close quarters, with snappy, biting dialogue by James M. Cain and standout performances from Charles Boyer as Pepe and Joseph Calleia as Slimane, the policeman in charge of the Casbah. And that’s before we even get to Heddy Lamar in her first Hollywood role, burning up the screen.
This movie was a joy to watch. I love discovering new old favorites! This movie really deserves a restoration and release on Blu-ray. I think The Film Detective did a restoration for DVD but I don’t think he does Blu-ray releases.
