This movie obviously owes a lot to THE MATRIX as it imitates some of the same special FX and camera work, but to less cinematic effect. Sci-fi movies from the late ‘90s, very early 2000’s are interesting in that they exist in the time period where the industry was rapidly adopting computer visual FX but the technology was still in transition. And so you end up with things like THE ONE. It’s not bad given its time period, but it is dated.
Also, definitely not the best use of either Jet Li or Jason Statham’s martial arts skills, though there is some fun wirework in this coordinated by Corey Yuen.
