As much as I enjoyed the first one, I think the second one is even more sinister and sisyphean in Koo’s portrayal of the gangster who just wants to be a businessman but who must do gangster shit to get there.
Despite this being an all-three-movies on one Blu-ray disc set from Tartan, the image and sound quality of the second film is better than the first. All three could probably do with new 2K scan releases but Hong Kong film industry is notoriously shitty from a film preservation perspective so who knows what’s available.
