Viewing Notes

Certainly better than the original theatrical release but holy fuck, at just over four hours in length, it was either gonna be much better or a godawful mess. This would have been served better as a limited series and not a movie at all, which is how it felt with the section titles anyway.

The slower, more deliberate pace serves the story arcs of each character well, giving their interactions and motivations room to breathe.

It did nothing for Darkseid at all though, who remains this shadowy, motivationless world destroyer lurking in the background with no real reason for existing other than to provide the existential crisis to draw the heroes together. And ultimately that greatly undermines the impact of the whole affair.

Some of the humor centered on The Flash’s character that worked well enough in the theatrical release lands with a dull thud here given that the overall tone and pace is much grimmer and slower now.

And as much work as was done with Cyborg’s character, making him MUCH more significant, I still really didn’t get into him at all. The shiny CGI-laden body continually took me out of taking the character seriously.

All the post-action scenes at the end felt weird and out of place given that likely none of that stuff will come to fruition in later films.
