Unflinching sexual violence (and not the kind you think) that ripples outward and changes the world around the protagonist in palpable ways drives this, at times grueling, thriller. All of that is couched in the midst of complex, authentic character relationships between two sisters and their partners.
The viewing experience is not unlike watching Spasojevic’s A SERBIAN FILM, Haneke’s original FUNNY GAMES, or Laugier’s MARTYRS in that you want to turn away but are compelled not to. This would be seriously uncomfortable watching with a crowd but I’d love to have had that experience. Certainly people would have walked out.
