Shudder exclusive film by the director of BLACK DEATH and TRIANGLE, so I had higher hopes. It’s an interesting film, with some genuinely creepy moments but ultimately suffers from a disjointed plot. I’m not sure if that’s a product of the direction or the editing.
Jessica Brown Findlay does a great job in the lead role but John Heffernan who plays her reverend husband never really pulls off his part; and Sean Harris’ eccentric occultist feels out of place with the rest of the film.
Without giving away too much, I did like the Nazi occult angle but it was never really integrated into the rest of the story as well as it should have been.
