A pretty good, albeit lesser known noir from the director of CAT PEOPLE. The opening scene is great with multiple shots of neon signs as they light up at nightfall. The action switches pretty evenly between L.A. and snowy Wyoming, making for a different setting than most noirs.
Anne Bancroft is gorgeous in this but Aldo Ray is an odd choice for the lead. Brian Keith plays one of the two bank robbers on Ray’s tail, but is overshadowed by the empty, evil performance of his partner as played by the great character actor Rudy Bond.
Based on a book by great crime writer David Goodis.
