Llorona is a figure unique to Mexican folklore—the wailing spirit of a woman who lost or killed her child and now returns to seek revenge and haunt the living. With its framing story and flashback structure, this film sets forth a couple of variations of the story.

Restored from the only existing 16mm film print in existence. All the 35mm negatives, etc. are believed to be lost. Lots of film grain of course but it still looked outstanding and the back story was interesting. There are so many filmed versions of La Llorona, it’s nice to see the very first one made.
