Got home in time to catch the second feature of The Last Drive-In, which was the director’s cut of NIGHTBREED. Jay and I had seen the Cabal cut ages ago and I was unimpressed, but you could see the potential.
In the years following they unearthed a trove of 35mm reels of the film and were able to do this quality director’s cut, which is much better. There are still incongruities and weird cuts that make you scratch your head but definitely improved.
Still not a great film. I do enjoy the creature effects and Cronenberg as the villain though.
