It’s been a long time since I’d seen this and I have to say that this is both better and more prototypically Carpenter than I remembered. Great cinematography and some great scenes with character actors Robert Prosky, as the junkyard owner Darnell, and Roberts Blossom, as LeBay, the old guy who’s selling the car. They both steal scenes left and right!
Not to be outdone, Harry Dean Stanton gives a great taciturn, deadpan performance as the detective investigating the series of deaths.
And of course, a great score by Carpenter as well.
