Viewing Notes

I had to dig out my DVDs of this and the sequel since they’re hard/expensive to find the Blu-rays now.

I think this isn’t as good as the originals for two reasons: an American cast and a more linear format. Even though the cast are in Japan, it still feels devoid of Japanese culture. And most of the cast just feel out of place. And while it’s not quite linear, it’s certainly more so than any of the preceding four Japanese films.

All that said, it still manages to get some nicely creepy moments in and do a pretty decent job of blending JU-ON: THE GRUDGE and JU-ON: THE GRUDGE 2.
