Viewing Notes

This one is bizarre, and more akin to a horror film than a giallo. In more capable hands this could be a cult classic, but here it becomes a bit of a mess with plenty of random, ultimately unexplained, bits thrown in. Dollops of sadism in the form of torture of young, partially clad, women are thrown in which ties in to the inquisition-related plot which may or may not also have something to do with politics but which remains vague. Given the craziness going on in Italy at the time, it seems they could have leaned heavier into actual political intrigue but nah. I dug the villain’s outfit even if I did guess who it was pretty early on.
