Viewing Notes

Imagine if Gaspar Noé were Italian and directed Climax but in the 1960s and he’d only heard of Phantom of the Opera and Dracula through a game of telephone; and he had a thing for pitchforks that don’t actually stab anyone as a metaphor for vampiric impotence and boom, you’ve got this movie! This is a sequel of sorts to the director’s THE VAMPIRE AND THE BALLERINA I guess? I dunno because I haven’t seen it.

The new print is outstanding though, which helps to show off the great black and white cinematography which is at its best during the opening dream sequence.
