Probably best watched with a crowd to fully enjoy the regional wackery going on in this! Warning, there is fair amount of animal cruelty involving snakes. The characters feel eerily realistic to the place and time this is set (Missouri in present day, which is 1984). Not that everyone in Missouri is as wackadoodle as the gun-toting paranoid religious family depicted in this, but there are definitely those and I am definitely related to some of them! Even the depiction of the local cop and the neighboring family felt pretty real.
I love that this ever got made and I love that it’s available on Blu-ray even if I don’t love the movie itself. Preserving regional shot-on-video oddities like this is definitely worthwhile.
