Viewing Notes

Today seemed to be the right day to dig into the CAT III box set from VS. I started with this one based on length (84 minutes). The first half is more of a period drama/romance, or at least as much as you can do within a CAT III horror film. But the second half goes full on demon baby crazy and it’s a lot of campy fun. As usual, Anthony Wong as a Taoist priest/exorcist, makes the most of his role, even though he’s not in a lot of the film. The rest of the effort goes to the fun practical effects of the demon babies themselves. While gory, it feels almost quaint by CAT III standards. It’s still a fun watch and I hope we get more of these sets from VS, because these second/third tier movies deserve some love too.
