Viewing Notes

I decided to finally dive into the Jose Larraz box set from Arrow and started with the earliest film in the set, the severely underseen WHIRLPOOL. The entire film has a very slow, melancholic pace that makes everything feel uneasy and predestined for doom. There isn’t much mystery here; everything that you think is going to happen happens; every character is exactly who you expect them to be. However, that doesn’t make it boring. It feels like an arthouse sex film except that no one’s going to be getting any sort of sexual gratification out of the, if not seedy, almost depressing sex scenes.
