From the bleached out black and white opening to the stage-like action set pieces, this movie has so much style it’s hard to think of anything to compare it to in the same decade. Tetsuya Watari is cooler than cool and presages the likes of Chow Yun-Fat in Woo’s THE KILLER and HARD BOILED. Clocking in at a compact 83 minutes, it wastes no time getting into the meat of its scheming yakuza story with attendant loyalties and double crosses.
