Overall I’m not a big fan of the FF franchise but I do enjoy this first one. It’s easier to see why now because you can compare them to the newer films. This one is very grounded, physical and real, with real car chases and stuntwork. It’s funny to see everyone looking so damn young, especially Jordana Brewster who looks like a teenager in this. I totally forgot one of my favorite character actors, Ted Levine, is in this. It also has Johnny Strong, who plays one of Turretto’s family crew, but was also one of the rangers, Shughart, who lands to defend the crew of the first downed helicopter in BLACK HAWK DOWN. He’s so great as that character. And both that and this movie came out in 2001 so he had a good year!
