Overview

Yunpeng and his servant stay at a country inn one dark evening to escape potential robbers and ghosts. But Yunpeng chances into something far more dangerous! He accidentally happens upon the comely Anu naked in bed, and to make up for his rudeness he has to marry her. Because of her beauty, the request is not too difficult to fulfill…until she is introduced to his aunts and uncles, who notice her ghastly green glow and deduce that she’s a spirit from the netherworld. But there’s something even darker about her appearance, and it may be revenge on his in-laws.

Viewing Notes

This is a definite oddity in Shout Factory’s Shaw Brothers Vol 2 box set as its A Taiwanese production that was financed by Shaw Brothers with money they had tied up in Taiwan (that couldn’t be directly converted to Hong Kong currency because politics). It’s pretty average and not really scary at all. The best thing about it is the interview with film historian Tony Raynes as an extra. He drops knowledge in the form of a summarized history of the origins of both Taiwanese and Hong Kong horror films that is hugely informative. I was enthralled. I would love to listen to this man speak on film for hours.
