Viewing Notes

After the last few light romantic comedies it’s nice to see Hitchcock turning his attentions to a darker romantic affair. Buoyed by a capable cast of actors he’d worked with on previous films (or would work with on future films) and a photogenic setting on the Isle of Man (but actually filmed in Cornwall), this moves along at a nice pace with Hitchcock’s usual eye for staging shots.

The Isle of Man is a self-governing dependency of the British Crown. Manx is the language spoken on the island and where the film’s name comes from.
